MEET OUR STAFF

MAGGIE SAMEN | Stagedoor Manor Studios Supervisor
Maggie Samen (she / her) is an Associate Producer at Stagedoor Manor and has been working at Stagedoor Manor for 12 years. She has a masters in Environmental Studies with a concentration in Environmental Education. Maggie created Stagedoor Manor Studios because our families wanted us to bring Stagedoor’s theater magic to campers all year round. Through zoom, we can reach students internationally and all 50 states. Workshops are held in person in New York City and Boston.

HAYLEY SAMEN | College Connections Supervisor
Hayley Samen (she / her), Associate Producer at Stagedoor Manor is thrilled to be the Program Supervisor for the College Connection program. Hayley's interest in higher education came from her passion as a special educator. She has three degrees in education and values all students as different learners with unique paths to higher education. Her drive to make the college process more equitable drives her programming to help both high school students and Stagedoor Manor alumni. In addition, Hayley is passionate about our Stagedoor families and helping them through the difficult theater program application process and auditions.

ROB SCHARLOW | Artistic Director of SDM Studios
Rob Scharlow (he / him) has spent over 30+ working in the performing arts. For the past 16 years he has been with the Stagedoor family and currently is the Associate Artistic Director. Prior to stepping into this role, he served as the Director of Education for 10 of those years along with being a director, teacher, and heading up the Dramafest program at Stagedoor. Hailing from the Midwest, his career has also taken him across the country working as a director and actor. Directing credits include: Evil Dead: The Musical in which he helped in the creation of the High School Edition working closely with Dramatic Publishing and the creators of the show. Other favorite directing credits include: Spring Awakening, Carrie: The Musical, In the Heights, BKLYN the Musical, The Toxic Avenger, Sweeney Todd, Rock of Ages, You Can’t Take it With You, and more. Some favorite acting credits include: Sweeney Todd in Sweeney Todd (BroadwayWorld Best Actor Nominee), Billy Flynn in Chicago, Lockstock in Urinetown, Phantom in Phantom, Jon in Tick, Tick…BOOM!, El Gallo in The Fantasticks, and others.

NICK HRUTKAY | Education Director & Asst. Artistic Director
Nick Hrutkay (he / him) is an award-winning director who creates work across all boundaries of theater. He currently serves as the Education Director and Assistant Artistic Director for the internationally acclaimed Stagedoor Manor, and devises projects as a Teaching Artist with Quantum Theatre. His work has been seen at theaters across the country having mounted over 75 productions, including Central Square Theater, The Kennedy Center, Theatre Row, The Brick Theater, Alchemical Studios, Playwrights Local, The Huron Playhouse, Keystone Repertory Theater, Hippodrome Theatre, Stagedoor Manor, and more. Nick is the former Artistic Director of The Huron Playhouse, one the longest-running summer stock theaters in the United States. As a Dramaturg for Dramafest at Stagedoor Manor, he oversaw the annual new work festival while mentoring students whose selected plays were published through Stephen Sondheim's Young Playwrights Inc. He has taught at Stagedoor Manor, Hippodrome Theatre, Quantum Theatre, The Huron Playhouse, Stagedoor Manor Studios, and Pittsburgh Musical Theater, where he was the Chair of the Acting Department for the PMT Conservatory. He is the recipient of the 2010 Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival / Stage Directors and Choreographers Society Fellowship; a Broadway World Award for Best Director of a Musical; and an ArtWorks Grant from the National Endowment for the Arts. nickhrutkay.com
